Studio Inquiry

Designing Experience will explore desirable, feasible and viable user experience design across Service, Interaction and Business design. The studio will explore common barriers of miscommunication and pushback from users and clients. Helping students establish a sense of comfortability with user confusion, whilst developing best practices to eliminate this dynamic. For context, users and industry clients absorb and distil information in very different ways, forming at times complex separations between what the client thinks is essential and what is needed to satisfy the end user. The studio will require students to investigate, research and develop empathy for users' needs within a student driven demographic study. Students will be required to develop multiple UX concepts in response to identified user problems, with the aim to further develop a final design direction and UX outcome in response to the problems identified throughout their user demographic research.

Engagement

In addition to understanding user needs, behaviours and bias, students will be directed to develop an understanding of best development practices to efficiently test within user demographics. With emphasis on adapting and refining UX outcomes throughout the design and prototyping process. Students will also be required to develop deep contextual empathy for their user demographic, consolidated through research and testing.

Communication of knowledge

Students will be exposed to best processes to create world class digital experiences and techniques to solve real world problems. The studio will incorporate digital communication and presentation techniques to help students become comfortable communicating their ideas and designs to high stake holding individuals. Always there are groups of industry individuals in which ideas and concepts will be presented to, often these meetings are intense and require strategies to keep discussions on track and outcome orientated. You will complete the course having established, consolidated, and developed significant awareness, knowledge and skills that will contribute to form the base of your evolving pathway as a user experience designer, as well as methodology that will compliment your overall creative pathway in establishing yourself as a design professional.

Activities

In this studio you will be undertaking and communicating stages of user research, journey mapping, user profiling, interface design, prototyping, commercial validation, and presenting results as an experiential business case.
