Studio Inquiry

In this studio you will look at the effects of disruptive innovation. Long standing problems are often resolved through disruptive thinking.
Change in the way ideas are conceptualised and expressed can lead to solutions that are compellingly appropriate. You will be asked to throw away all your preconceived notions about how conceptual practices work and to explore alternative ways of thinking and approaching the design of communication. We will encourage you to enjoy mistakes and appreciate the joy and the thrill of risk taking. Serious issues approached from a disrupted viewpoint can be clarified and solutions can be revealed.

Engagement

Through research and investigation, this studio will ask you to investigate disruptive events that have occurred over time.
You will be asked to consider the effects of disruption in the practice of design and the resulting innovations.

Communication of knowledge

The primary focus of this studio is to disrupt and in so doing create design communication that will engage a disengaged audience.
Shock or thrill, attack, bang the audience over the head, lightly tap them on the shoulder - surprise them!
We don't take disruption lightly; this is an important aspect of communication that when understood can be a powerful tool in a designer’s personal set of resources.
