Studio Inquiry
Water is life.
Water sustains our lives and the living environment.
Water is a carrier.
This studio is focussed upon the invisible relationship Melbournians have with water and how everyday living is connected to marine life in Port Phillip Bay. We will explore this relationship and use interpretive design and systems thinking to communicate, educate and motivate the audience to action.
Engagement
Research will be undertaken through field trips, observations, prototype testing and development. We will construct our research insights using systems and ecological thinking and mapping.
Communication of knowledge
This studio is focused on issues of human impact on waterways and water life. We will use Interpretive design as the key practice, and systems thinking to support our understand of environmental and ecological issues.
This studio also includes other current and emergent communities of design practice:
Design for Sustainability
Systemic Design and Systems Thinking
Activities
Students will design artefacts and experiences that communicate complex and invisible concepts to the audience. Final works might be digital or physical, installation, sculptural or play or game based. Students will develop and present concepts through a range of methods including material experiments, rough prototypes and high quality design mockups to communicate design ideas and intentions.
Assessments
There are four assessment tasks for this studio.
The briefs are made up of a range of milestone deliverables that are interconnected and build upon each other.
Brief 01: SKO.
Brief 02: Research project.
